Travel Tips for Seattle Visitors | Summer 2016

Summertime returns to the Emerald City and with it comes a multitude of ways for visiting families to have fun outdoors. Take advantage of warming weather and explore iconic Seattle attractions, then join in with communities up and down the Puget Sound as they celebrate the season with countless special events, festivals, and activities.

Sunny days are the perfect opportunity to visit Seattle’s countless attractions – from iconic tourist favorites like the Space Needle and Pike Place Market to historic focal points like the Klondike - Gold Rush Seattle Unit National Historical Park.

Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field

And what better way to soak up some sun than watching the Seattle Mariners go to bat at Safeco Field? After the home opener on April 6th versus the Anaheim Angels, the Mariners continue to host home games select days and evenings through September, rain or shine – Safeco Field has a retractable roof.

Make your way to beautiful Bainbridge Island to have your pick of the best of local produce and artisanal goods when the 2016 Bainbridge Island Farmers' Market hosts their annual Summer Market Saturdays. Browse the offerings of vendors like Butler Green Organics and Holly Lane Gardens to the sound of soothing live music in a picturesque setting, now through the end of October.

From car shows to a children's fair – Gig Harbor's biggest event of the summer has it all. The 2016 Maritime Gig Festival fills Harborview Drive, signaling the start of summer with parades, music, great food, the Classic Yacht Festival, and so much more on June 6th and 7th.

It’s not too late for a little whale watching. Oak Harbor residents enjoy especially easy access to Port Townsend, where they can embark on the Port Townsend-San Juan Island Whale Watching Tour aboard the Puget Sound Express, now through September.

September also brings the 2016 Washington Cheese Festival to the Seattle Design Center. Join Seattle residents as they sample and savor artisan cheeses from the region's best cheese makers, with plenty of craft beers and wines on hand as well. The cheese is cut and the pours start at 1 p.m.
