AUTUMN IN SEATTLE METRO AREA
Travel Tips for Seattle Visitors | Fall 2016
Seattle’s skyline is vibrant during the fall, and the surrounding Puget Sound area is as welcoming as ever this time of year. Plan your next visit to Seattle and check out a wide range of excellent events, festivals, and concerts sure to entertain all members of the family. From nearby Kent and Federal Way to the northern reaches near Bellingham, Seattle Metro is just right this fall.
Your stay in Bellingham during autumn should be met with a tour of local, must-see attractions like the Bellingham Railway Museum and Squalicum Harbor. Bellingham will also treat you with a batch of excellent events – don’t miss the Chuckanut Brewery Oktoberfest on September 10th at the Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen from noon to 11:30 p.m. And on September 17th, the Mount Baker Theatre will host a production of The Capitol Steps: What to Expect When You’re Electing, a satirical play about election cycles. This show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available now.
Visit Bellingham This Fall
Head south from Bellingham this fall and enjoy a Halloween celebration in Mount Vernon. In downtown Mount Vernon, along First Street between Division Street and Kincaid Street, you and the kids can enjoy the Downtown Trick-or-Treat Night on October 31st. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. you’ll find candy giveaways, games, and the costume contest is at the Lincoln Theatre.
Plan your stay in downtown Seattle for September 30th to October 9th and be sure to experience the 8th Annual Seattle Latino Film Festival. You’ll find screenings, panel discussions, and other events held at venues and theaters across Seattle.
One of this fall’s premier events in Seattle is the 8th Annual Northwest Chocolate Festival. Visit the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 on November 12th and 13th for this impressive confection convention. Drive in from Silverdale or Bainbridge Island and find 126 booths, 65 unique workshops, and tastes from 25 different countries.
An autumn visit to Seattle should also mean some time spent watching the Seattle Seahawks in action. After going only 10-6 last season, the Seahawks are hoping to take 2016 by storm with eight home games. Visit CenturyLink Field on September 11th for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins, and one of the biggest games of the year is on November 20th when the Philadelphia Eagles visit.
Head south from Seattle into Gig Harbor, found just across the water from Tacoma and Lakewood. Be sure to check out the Waterfront Walking Tours as they present Harbor Heritage: Then and Now Tour. On each Saturday now through September 17th from 10 a.m. to noon, you’ll be guided through a history of Gig Harbor’s maritime lore and culture.
