Visiting Puget Sound

Called the natural side of Puget Sound, Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island are west across the sound from downtown Seattle. Take a short ferry ride across the sound and escape to the quiet beauty of the peninsula. Kick off your cycling season with 41st Annual Chilly Hilly Bike Ride on Bainbridge Island. The 2014 Chilly Hilly is February 23rd, featuring a 33-mile course around Bainbridge Island’s hilly terrain. In Seattle? Hop an early morning ferry to arrive before the start, and join the fun in the chilly February temperatures.

May travelers to Bainbridge Island, don’t be surprised by the Scotch Boom Parade. By tradition the parade is an impromptu event held in May. Now much maligned, the scotch broom plant is the theme for the spontaneous parade down Winslow Way.

Siverdale, on the west side of the Kistap peninsula iand south of Kitsap Island's Bangor Naval Strategic Weapons Facility, is a gateway to outdoor recreation on the Hood Canal. Silerdale also offers shoppers the largest concentration of stores in the area. The Kitsap Mall is home to a variety of national and regional retailers, and outdoor enthusiasts find REI Kitsap Peninsula conveniently located around the corner from the mall.

Fair & Grand Prix Electric Car Races on May 3rd. Showcasing science, engineering, and math clubs from schools across Thurston County, the fair culminates with an all-electric car rally.
