SUMMER IN CENTRAL WASHINGTON
Travel Tips for Central Washington Visitors | Summer 2016
Summer in central Washington means all sorts of outdoor activities in some of the best weather the region sees all year. From Omak to Ephrata to Sunnyside to Cle Elum, local event calendars are filling with more sports, special events, festivals, and family-friendly activities than in any other time of year.
Central Washington visitors don’t have to drive all the way to the Emerald City to enjoy America’s Favorite Pastime this summer. The Wenatchee AppleSox, of the West Coast League – a collegiate summer baseball league, round the bases at Paul Thomas Sr. Field through mid-August. Check the schedule during your visit to enjoy a day at the ballpark.

Venues throughout historic downtown Ellensburg come together to host the 19th Annual Jazz in the Valley Festival, July 29th through 31st. Enjoy the cool evening air on a stroll through the town while you sample specialty foods and the smooth sounds of jazz music surround you. There will be art and history exhibits and you can also sip some of the Northwest's finest micro brews and wines in the festival beer garden.
Youngsters in Yakima can be a part of the The 14th Annual Hot Shots 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament this summer. The event takes over Yakima Avenue in downtown Yakima, welcoming boys and girls, from first grade through 12th, to compete on August 27th and 28th.
After summer cools off, make your way to Leavenworth Ski Hill, near Wenatchee, for the 2016 Oktoberfest Trail Runs. Held on October 15th, the events include a 10-mile run, an 8K, and the special Kids Race. Be there early to get your stretches in – things get moving at 8:30 a.m.
On October 30th, head for the Rocky Reach Visitor Center, minutes from downtown Wenatchee, for the 2016 Fall Roundup at Rocky Reach Dam. Kids can even come in costume and do a little trick-or-treating along Rocky Reach from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
